Gubernatorial Polls: Kogi, Bayelsa go to polls 21 November, 5 December.. INEC


The governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states will hold later this year as stated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), precisely November 21 and December 5 respectively.

Dr. Chris Iyimoga who is INEC's commission chairman on information and voter education committee disclosed this on Friday via a public communique after a meeting which held on Thursday.

The commission slated the commencement of campaigns in Kogi state from the 24th of July to November 19, while the campaign of Bayelsa state will commence from 6th September to 3rd of December.

According to the public communique , "the governorship elections in Kogi is slated to take place on Saturday, 21st November, 2015, while that of Bayelsa is schedule to take place on Saturday, 5 December, 2015.


In accordance with the provision of the Electoral Act (2010) as amended, "Official communique of the election shall be issued on or before 23rd August, 2015 for Kogi state and September 5, 2015 for Bayelsa state.

All political parties are to note that political campaigns outside the slated dates by the commission is unlawful and violators shall be prosecuted.

The commission also pointed out that political parties and aspirants are to note that the party primaries to nominate candidates for the election shall be between August 25 and September 15, 2015 for Kogi state and 7th and 30th September, 2015 for Bayelsa state.

Meanwhile, the last day for the submission of candidates list (CF002) and personal particulars of the candidates (CF001) for governorship and deputy governorship candidates, shall be November 14 and October 7, 2015 for Kogi and Bayelsa states respectively.
