Ninety four (94) years after its inception, Barewa College is still one of the best colleges in northern Nigeria and Nigeria at large. 

 

With its massive land mass, ten (10) dormitories, thirty class rooms and full sport facilities including standard sized football pitch, basketball court, handball, volley ball, all major track and field events, etc. 

 

However, the school has seen its facilities suffer from underfunding; its dining hall sometimes lacks enough chairs to seat the students leaving many to eat in the open.

 

The school is a model secondary school in Kaduna State and has five departments: science, language, humanities, vocational and technical. 

 

Its teaching staff is more than 70 with about 80% permanent teaching staffs. Barewa College is a college in Zaria, Kaduna State, northern Nigeria. 

 

Founded in 1921 by British Governor General Hugh Clifford, it was originally known as "Katsina College." It switched its name to "Kaduna College" in 1938 and then "Government College, Zaria" in 1949 before settling on "Barewa College.                

                                               

It is one of the largest boarding schools in Northern Nigeria and was the most celebrated post primary school in Northern Nigeria up to the early 1960s. 

 

The school is known for the large number of elites from the region that passed through the school's academic buildings and counts among its alumni, five of whom were at one time Nigerian Heads of State .
